Admission to the four BS programs offered by the Information Technology department is open to high school graduates who have completed at least elementary algebra and geometry. Physics or chemistry and courses in computing or technology are desirable but not required. Emphasis is placed on basic computing literacy. Solid English and communications skills are also important. Students applying to the IT New Media option do not need to have a portfolio, but most students accepted to New Media do have one.
Admission is open to students who have completed a year or more of study at a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Students should have a minimum grade point average of 2.8. Most students who have completed an AS in Computer Science or an AS in Information Technology from one of the SUNY College two-year campuses will be accepted as third-year students in the information technology program if they have chosen their electives to include math, science and liberal arts courses that will fill required course slots at RIT.
The BS in IT program is available to freshmen and transfer students on a part-time and evening basis.
Transfer admission to the Game Design and Development program is anticipated to be open in the Fall of 2008 to students who have completed a year or more of study at a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Students should have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 to be considered. We recommend following an AS or BS degree program in Computer Science or Information Technology with courses in programming, computer applications, math, science and liberal arts to be considered for the Game Deign and Development program.
