Q: How do I apply?
A: Online application forms are available from Graduate
Enrollment.
Q: When is the application deadline?
A: For admission into the Fall 2008 class, the priority review date
is February 1, 2008. All applications will be received by that date will be reviewed
and decisions made. The committee will continue reviewing applications until
all slots are filled. We will be accepting 12 students into the Fall 2008
class.
Q: Do I need to take the GRE exam?
A: The basic GRE exam is required by everyone (even those with master's
degrees). The exam must have been taken within the last 5 years.
Q: What is full-time residency?
A: The program residency requires that students be full-time students
for 2 consecutive years. This means that students must take 9 QHs per quarter
for 6 consecutive quarters. Taking 2 courses plus the Student Research Seminar
per quarter satisfies this requirement. It is expected that students will satisfy
this requirement in the first 2 years of the program.
Q: Can I start on any quarter?
A: Not really. The core courses are offered once per year. It is
important to take those courses in one year (the first year in the program).
Q: Will evening courses be offered?
A: Generally, the core Ph.D. courses are offered during the day. Several elective courses are offered in the evening.
Q: Will the program have a part-time option?
A: After the 2-year residency requirement is satisfied, students
may take courses on a part-time basis.
Q: I already have some master's coursework. Will I be
able to get transfer credit?
A: Depending upon your program of study, up to 28 QHs could be transferred
in. Students will work with their advisor to determine the appropriateness
of transfer credit.
Q: Are the information sessions required?
A: No, but if you attend, please RSVP to Joyce (475-6193).
Q: When are courses offered?
A: We are still working this, however we expect to offer the core
courses on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Q: Can I take the summer off?
A: Sure! Students may have an opportunity to work with faculty on
projects in the summer. There may also be internship opportunities.
Q: How long will it take to complete this degree?
A: Typically, students would complete all degree requirements within
4-5 years.
Q: What is the teaching requirement?
A: All students are required to complete a teaching internship. This
is expected to include teacher training skill workshops and a mentoring program.
Students should be able to satisfy standard departmental methods for adjuncts.
The workshops will begin in the first year.
